Introduction to Shell Access
Societas Maleficarum offers shell access to worthy and unworthy individuals we
know personally or by reputation. We don't charge anything for it, in exchange
for which we only grant it to people we know won't abuse it. There are no disk
quotas, but SCP transfers are rate-limited. You are welcome to request
software installation and push the machines as hard as you like, but if your
processes start to interfere with other uses / users of the system, we may ask
you to run your jobs elsewhere or renice them.
Connection Issues?
Our servers implement a preauthentication sequence that, as a shell user, you
would have been made familiar with when you were granted SSH access.
Essentially,
this simple
process authorizes the IP you are connecting from to access the shell
server. This is necessary to mitigate the unfortunate number of automatic
scans that target SSHd.
If you are having difficulties logging in to your account, you may need to
authorize your IP address. To do this, telnet to port 22 of the shell server
you are attempting to connect to and enter the password you were given when
you first signed up. Note that you only need to do this once per IP.
If you have forgotten that password, or otherwise cannot log in,
contact the admins. and they'll walk you through
this process or just script it for you.
Host Key Fingerprints
The SSH host keys of the public SSH server are:
